The owners of such fashion boutiques and handicraft outlets claimed that Pahela Baishakh, the beginning of the Bengali calendar, has a universal appeal like major festivals such as Eid and it helped them get a broader market for their products.Over the last years, they said, demand for sarees went up, but various men's and children's wears, including fatua etc.
